영광의 도시 자비드
817년 홍해 연안에서 반란이 일어났다는 소식이 압바스 왕조의 수도 바그다드에 전해지면서 무하마드 이븐 지야드가 총독으로 파견되었다.
이븐 지야드는 819년에 반란을 진압한 즉시 홍해 연안부에서 약간 내륙으로 들어간 계곡에 새로운 도시 자비드를 건설했다. 자비드를 중심으로 순식간에 지배 세력을 넓혀 지금의 예멘 대부분을 지배하게 된 이븐 지야드는 바그다드로부터
사실상 독립해 지야드 왕조를 열었다.
그는 또한 알아샤에르 모스크 마드라사(이슬람교의 고등 교육 시설)의 진흥을 위해 힘썼는데, 이는 훗날 알아샤에르 대학의 토대가 되었다. 자비드는 왕조의 수도이자 문화의 중심지로서 그 뒤 200년이 넘도록 번영을 누렸다.
